The laws in USA-Connecticut say the following:
Connecticut permits a student or visitor to operate a motor vehicle in Connecticut for up to one year with a foreign license. If the license is in a language other than English or Spanish, the license must be accompanied by an IDP, which serves as an English translation of the foreign license.

It means that:
1. As a holder of a driving license from Australia, you can drive in USA-Connecticut without an International Driving Permit.
2. You will not need an International Driving Permit to drive in USA-Connecticut, as long as your Australian license is written in English, includes the driver photo, and is in accordance with the International Road Traffic Convention of 1968 and Geneva Road Traffic Convention of 1949.
